Day 01

Siem Reap – Chong Kneas – Tonle Sap – Preak Toal Bird Reserve – Siem Reap

Meet the driver-guide at the hotel lobby.

Departure for the visit of the Tonle Sap, the largest lake in South East Asia. The pier is located about thirty minutes drive from Siem Reap. The view of the Vietnamese floating village of Chong Kneas is very charming and touching

It consists in a myriad of floating buildings, houses, shops, add it is located, depending on periods and water depth, either along the banks of the river channel that leads to the lake or at the lake itself. Then enter in the Tonle Sap, so big that the banks cannot be seen

Leave by boat to Preak Toal that may be reached in about two hours.

It takes about two hours by boat to get to the wildlife reserve of Prek Toal, which is accessible by water. Feeling of total detachment from the rest of the world.

The Prek Toal area consists of seasonally inundated freshwater swamp forest with a high botanical diversity. Short tree shrub makes up most of the landscape, forming a dense under story with scattered large trees, which form the vital nesting ground for large water birds.

The Biosphere covers more than 30000 hectares on the Tonle Sap Lake, is home to so many bird species and has been named as one of the most important breeding place in Southeast Asia for large water birds.

The best time for a visit is between December and May when most of the birds concentrate .

During the dry season, the number of birds may increase but the travel to some areas may also become more difficult as long as the water recedes.

Lunch box or at local restaurant.
